What is WideLens?

WideLens is a Bungee Connect reference calendaring application designed by the Bungee Labs engineering team to:

• show the kinds of application that can be developed using Bungee Connect – (highly interactive, secure and scalable web applications leveraging multiple web services and relational data stores)
  
  
• motivate Bungee developers to work through the required learning curve because they are inspired by WideLens
  
  
• leverage WideLens to educate developers on how to extend an existing Bungee app, illustrate best practices and design patterns, etc. using WideLens as an example
  
  
• encourage community activity i.e. collaborative development projects that make WideLens do what Bungee devs want it do

How can I import WideLens so I can see the code and modify it?

There are two versions of the WideLens reference application for you to import into your DesignGoroup and play around with:

• WideLens Reference Application in “Premier Examples” of the Design Tab





• is the same source code that is deployed and available from the Splash screen

  • This is an example of how the WideLens Reference Application has been extended with a new data source, in this case a Salesforce.com custom event (Opportunities)

About User Accounts for WideLens Reference Application

When you import either the WideLens Reference App or the Salesforce.com Opportunities Calendar (WideLens Sample) into your DeisgnGroup, a new MySQL database is automatically provisioned for you.  It is empty of accounts. There are no accounts in it.  So when you simulate the form and attempt to login, you will fail... until you create a new account, which will be stored in that empty database.

Is WideLens is Free Software (Open Source)?

Yes. We've provide the WideLens reference application under an open source license in order to allow devs to create derivative works with as much freedom as possible. The licence is a Bungee Connect Type-R library source licence which is based upon the BSD open source licence.

What does this mean? well, you should read the licence for the details, but in a nutshell it means that developers can freely use & modify this code to create their own works without having to open source their own code. It's a very liberal license.

The deployed version of WideLens

How can I use the deployed version of WideLens?

You must be a registered developer with Bungee Connect to use the deployed version of WideLens application.

You can access the deployed version of WideLens via the Welcome Splash page within Bungee Connect (click on "Run App"). The link to the Splash Page is in the top left-hand corner of Start Tab.

How do I create a WideLens account for the deployed version of WideLens?

• When you click on "Run App" from the Welcome Splash page, we will create a WideLens account for you using your registered Bungee Connect email address.
  
  
• You need to enter the password you want to use for this deployed version of WideLens (this can be different to your Bungee Connect account password - this two accounts are not joined in any way).
  
  
• After you have created your WideLens account, you can go directly to http://wideLens.com and use the web application there without having to log back in to Bungee Connect
