Bungee Connect: First Platform-as-a-Service to Offer "Write Once, Run Anywhere" Support
for All Major Browsers, Including Google Chrome
Four Reference Applications (with Source Code) Available for Testing in Chrome
SALT LAKE CITY, UT—Sept. 9, 2008—Adding to its long list of Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) innovations, Bungee Labs™ today announced "write once, run anywhere" support for all major web browsers, including the new Google Chrome. As of today, end-user applications built on the Bungee Connect platform are immediately accessible through Chrome, as well as Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari, providing support for more than 98% of all browsers currently in use on the Internet.
"Bungee Labs' vision for Platform-as-a-Service has always included relieving web developers from the headaches associated with developing applications that work in multiple browsers," said David Mitchell, founder and CTO of Bungee Labs. "By enabling this cross-browser support without requiring browser-specific JavaScript programming, we make it faster and easier for developers to create and deliver the type of highly interactive web applications for which Google Chrome was created. No other platform-as-a-service can make this claim."
Companies use Bungee Connect to build Ajax web applications with desktop-like interactivity. They can then deploy those applications immediately, either to the Bungee Grid™ multi-tenant grid infrastructure, or to one or more Bungee Application Servers™ running in the companies' own infrastructures.
"Google Chrome's new V8 JavaScript engine is designed to run these types of Ajax applications as if they were desktop programs," said Mitchell. "It's almost as though Google Chrome was designed specifically for Bungee-powered apps."
Four Reference Applications (with Free Source Code) Available for Testing
Immediately following the beta release of Google Chrome last week, Bungee Labs began testing applications for compatibility, performance and stability. A demonstrative subset of sample applications shows the interactivity of Bungee Connect PaaS with Google Chrome (known issues—http://bungeeconnect.wordpress.com/2008/09/05/google-chrome-support):
The source code for these applications is freely available to all Bungee Connect developers under a BSD-style license.
